Their Story

Thomas Eugene Tennis was born on April 30, 1953, in Columbus, Ohio, to Carl E. Tennis and Rosemarie Klein.1 In 1971, he graduated from Galion High School in Galion, Ohio,2 and enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year. Tennis enlisted for three years of service and soon began basic training at the Army’s Stock Control and Accounting School at Fort Lee, Virginia.3 He served over twenty years in the Army. During this time he served in Germany and Panama. He also served at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., finishing his service at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois.4 On August 31, 1994, he was honorably discharged from the Army.5

He was a member of American legion Post #246 and a lifetime member of Moose Lodge #28. On August 2, 2007, Tennis passed away unexpectedly at his home in Davenport, Iowa. His memorial service was held at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport, and he was interred at the Rock Island National Cemetery.6
