Their Story

Steven Allen Kresser was born on Aug. 23, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Lawrence E. and Mildred F. (Segebarth) Kresser.[1] His father was a shipping clerk with Wringer Factory. In 1950.[2] They had three boarders living with them. Steven had two brothers then. A brother, Michael, was born in 1954 and died the same day. Steven graduated from Geneseo High School where he participated in the boy’s quartet, the mixed quartet,[3] the boy’s double quartet,[4] the Letterman’s Club,[5] basketball,[6] and baseball.[7]

Steven joined the U.S. Marine Corps in March 1966 at the age of 18, and was discharged in 1969.[8] He joined the U.S. Army on April 12, 1974. He earned several awards, during his military career, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.

After Vietnam, he had four children with wife, Linda, who he married in 1973.[9] They divorced in 1995.[10] In 1989, as a Sergeant First Class, he was one of three men who was appointed to the Rock Island Recruiting Office.[11] He married Mary in 2003.[12]

Steven A. Kresser, 65, of Moline, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
